MA Danielle Dolley from Nelson Mandela University, Gqeberha (SA), and Dr Deborah Zeller from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (SA), presented on the title ‘Promoting quality physical education through short learning programmes for teachers at public schools‘. What we learned: (i) There is a need for in-service physical education (PE) teacher training in South Africa. (ii) There is interest in KaziBantu in the Western Cape (SA). Therefore, we first need to pilot the short learning program (SLP): KaziKidz Foundation Phase in the Eastern Cape before we can roll the KaziBantu Programme out in the Western Cape. The quality of PE is dependent on educators who are qualified to teach PE. Therefore, we as KaziBantu support the drive for continued professional development to improve teacher effectiveness in the delivery of quality PE.
